other area Things to Do:
Tennessee's die-hard sports fans have been known to travel great distances to support their favorite sport, team, or athlete but Rutledge's UT Volunteers ("Vols") fans consider themselves lucky in that they can be at the UT campus in Knoxville in under an hour (in optimal traffic conditions). To beat the rush, many choose to arrive early in the day and "tailgate" with friends and fellow fans on game day. Although the actual game may not take place until the evening, for some fans, a UT game is no less than an all-day-affair and a great way to break bread, relax, and socialize.
Nascar fans have a straight shot to Bristol Motor Speedway in under two hours.

Rutledge History
Rutledge was named in honor of General George Rutledge of Sullivan County. During the period of its early formation, county business was often conducted at Bunch's Tavern in Rutledge, built in 1797. Washburn community was briefly the county seat but the title transferred to Rutledge when its courthouse was completed in 1801. Andrew Jackson opened his first tailor shop in Rutledge and a replica of the shop was erected in the 1920s in front of the Grainger County Courthouse near the intersection of Hwy 92 and Rutledge Pike.
The Tennessee Historical Commission has erected two historical markers on the lawn of the old courthouse--one for Andrew Jackson's tailor shop and the other for Dewitt Clinton Senter.
Henderson's A.M.E.Z. Church in Rutledge is a nationally recognized historical location.
